Klaus Garstenauer has a background in mechanical engineering and graduated from the Vienna University of Economics and Business in 1996. His professional career covers 20 years of experience in railway business, operations and technology. Klaus started his professional career as an assistant at the Institute of Transportation Economics and Logistics at his Alma Mater. In 1997, he joined ÖBB Infrastruktur AG where he was concerned with controlling and cost accounting. His task was also to set up the infrastructure charging system for network access in 2004. In 2006 he joined Thales Austria where he held managerial positions in sales and marketing of signalling technology. Since 2009 he holds the position of the head of commuter and regional traffic within ÖBB Personenverkehr AG. In his capacity, he is in charge of targets concerning customer satisfaction and commercial objectives of his business unit. Furthermore, he oversees the ongoing fleet renewal program which started with the procurement of the ÖBB Cityjet.
